The Backstory: Jacob and I met in a summer algebra class in between sophomore and junior year to get into a biomedical program at our school. In that summer we would always go in at the same time and help each other out with problems. Then summer went and Jacob and I lost contact and did not really see each other. A couple of weeks into school starting again, I received an Instagram DM from him. From then, we continued to talk and dated all throughout high school. After we graduated high school we both fell in love with SWOSU in Weatherford, OK. Jacob is now a senior majoring in accounting and I am a junior and got accepted into the nursing program.

The Proposal: We were on a Carnival cruise with Jacob’s family when he proposed. I told Jacob a long time ago that I would prefer my mom and dad to be there, so I was totally not expecting it. Not to mention the fact that he works almost 40 hours a week plus he is a full-time student, so I do not understand how he could’ve got everything prepared without me knowing. Anyways, it was formal night on the cruise, so we were all dressed up. Now, a fact about his mom is that she LOVES pictures to be taken 24/7. So I got told that we were taking sunset pictures outside. I thought that was totally normal, so I went outside to pose for a picture. Jacob grabbed my hand then got down on one knee and proposed. I, of course, was shocked and said “YES!”.

Favorite Photo: It is hard to pick a favorite. When we first got the pictures and we were looking at them for the first time we kept on saying “this one is my favorite” “oh no this one is my favorite” over and over again. I think if I had to pick just one it would be the one of Jacob coming up behind me and hugging me. It just felt like home.

Q: What did you love about the engagement session experience?

A: I loved how normal it felt. It did not feel like it was awkward or weird unnatural poses. Emily did a great job by suggesting things and letting whatever naturally occur happen. Also, I liked how she put an emphasis on us and our relationship. Emily would often say “think of this” or “say that to your fiance” and in the photos, you can see the love and endearment. Another thing that I love was that Emily let us have a little bit of time carved out for us to have pictures with our dog. We are “dog parents” and our dog is like our child so I will forever be thankful that she worked with us and got good pictures even though our dog was being hyper.

Q: What advice do you have to brides during the engagement season?

A: Have fun and actually take in the moment and savor it. With all the overwhelming things that come with wedding planning, this was such a relaxing moment. I was a little worried about how to pose without looking so robotic, but Emily really did everything for us and those thoughts went out of my head the first minute of taking photos. The whole drive back home we couldn’t stop saying how much we enjoyed doing this.
