A little bit of background from the bride: Dan & I met in undergrad, the school we went to had a hangout spot called the pub. After softball practice, I went to get dinner and ran in to a friend of mine, who had someone I’d never seen before with him wearing a cowboy hat, boots and a LARGE belt buckle. We chatted about nothing in particular, but must have really hit it off. When I left, he told our friend that he was going to marry me someday.
Q: What was your color palette?

A: I chose a navy and grey color palette with yellow accents. I knew I wanted something a little fun, but still romantic, rustic, and not over the top. We added wine barrels to the ceremony area, but really the venue did a lot of the heavy lifting on style. The florist helped me select some elegant touches like baby’s breath and plenty of greenery to complete the picture.

The bride’s gown: Planning a wedding in a different state, it was a bit of an ordeal to coordinate dress shopping, but both moms flew in to town to help with the day. I only had one day to shop with them there, so there was a lot of pressure. I thought I knew exactly what I didn’t want: strapless, mermaid, etc, but I’m so glad that I trusted the consultant at David’s Bridal to help me figure out what I really wanted. As a surprise, my mom ended up purchasing the dress for me, making the day even more special.

Q: What were the bridesmaids’ dresses like?

A: Oher than the color, I really let the bridesmaids have a lot of say in what they wanted to wear. I’ve always thought that people who feel good about how they look have more fun (and make for better pictures!). In the end, I gave a total of four dress choices to them, and they did the rest.

Advice from the bride: Prioritize your spending on the things that truly matter to you. For us, twenty years from now it won’t be important what the centerpieces looked like, if we had top of the line catering, or Insta-worthy welcome bags for our guests. Where you can, make your day uniquely you and personal instead of Pinterest perfect or trendy. And finally, don’t be afraid to ask for what you want!

The cake and cupcakes described by the bride:  The cutting cake and cupcakes were made by Dan’s aunt, who flew in from Alaska to celebrate with us.

Q: What was your favorite memory/ picture from the day?

A: My favorite memory is our last dance. I had plenty of fun the whole day, but for me this last dance is when it really set in that we were married. That quiet moment alone, just us sharing the moment, is unforgettable. And my favorite photo is from that dance, all the emotion of the moment just perfectly captured for us to remember.
