Q: What were your invitations like?
A: Our stunning invitations were designed by my husband’s cousin, Erin Saxon, and the envelopes were addressed in a beautiful hand-written calligraphy by my Matron of Honor, Ashton Ready. The invitation suite incorporated our fall-inspired color palette, gold accents that were seen in the bridal party accessories and ballroom décor, and magnolia flowers and leaves to represent the grand magnolia trees that served as the breathtaking backdrop in the chapel.
A little bit of backstory from the bride: Chris and I met while working for Radio Disney in Dallas! We worked numerous hours together with our promotions team, and our flirtatious friendship morphed into a loving relationship. We secretly liked the other, but neither of us wanted to ruin our friendship. Our birthdays are a day a part (he’s a year and a day older than me), and in 2014, we celebrated our birthdays together. And that was the year that we realized that we never wanted to celebrate our birthdays any other way. September 7, 2018, on our four-year dating anniversary, he completely surprised me with an incredibly well-thought out and flawlessly executed proposal in Downtown Fort Worth, surrounded by our family and friends. We were married a year to-the date later, September 7, 2019. We’re two peas in a pod, and I can truly say I married my best friend.
Q: What was your color palette and style vision?
A: Our colors were navy, burgundy/wine, with gold accents. Our vision was romantic, classic, and fun!
The wedding dress described by the bride:
My gown is by Justin Alexander, and I purchased it from Bliss Bridal. The organza gown put a modern twist on the classic ball gown with biased striped satin and organza skirt details. It featured a bow belt at the natural waistline, a straight-across neckline, and buttons to the end of the chapel length train. It’s truly the dress of my dreams. (And it most definitely resembles Maggie Carpenter’s favorite dress from “Runaway Bride,” which made my movie-loving heart so happy.)
Q: What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?
A: the moment that my Uncle and I stood behind the closed chapel doors while we waited for my favorite rendition of “I Can’t Help Falling In Love” to start, signaling for the doors to open and us to proceed down the aisle. I kept taking deep breaths, and as the chapel doors opened, he looked me in the eye and said ever so calmly, “Are you ready?” I nodded while holding back happy tears and said, “Let’s do this.” I turned to look directly at my handsome groom at the altar, while blurrily taking in a sea of faces around us. I still get butterflies thinking about that moment; the moment I’d dreamed about my entire life.
The flowers: Our flowers and greenery were done by Darla at Blossoms on the Bricks in Fort Worth. Scattered throughout the venue was an abundance of greenery, with Magnolia leaves playing a starring role. The cross at the altar was draped in greenery, playa white roses, blue thistle, wine dahlias, silver dollar, and white ranunculus, and the piece doubled as the topper for our sweetheart table. “Hidden Mickey” elements were also incorporated into our florals, which added an extra element of fun for our guests.
The cakes described by the bride: Our cakes were made by my incredibly talented cousin, Kelli Frick, owner of Frickin’ Sweet. For the groom’s cake, she created a red velvet cake (Chris’s favorite cake flavor) with cream cheese frosting, and designed it to look just like Chris’s wedding day tux, even his burgundy bow tie! The bridal cake was a three-tiered, Funfetti-flavored cake with buttercream frosting. The sprinkles inside the cake created a fun element of surprise for our guests!
The bride’s favorite picture of the day: Can I say ALL OF THEM?! Gosh, since I have to pick just one, I would say one of the photos with Chris and me dancing at the ceremony. That was the first moment in which both of us let our tears flow simultaneously.
Advice for future brides: Breathe. And don’t sweat the small details, especially during the planning process. For the day of the wedding, take in EVERY moment with a deep breath, mentally logging everything so you don’t forget it. People aren’t joking when they say the day flies by – Soak it ALL up!
