The invitations described by the bride: I looked through so many sample books and really never found anything I liked. I ended up getting kind of frustrated with the whole process and put off picking anything until it was crunch time to make a decision- oops. I ended up searching the internet until I found something that I liked, and ultimately loved what I picked.
A little bit of backstory from the bride: To be honest, Charlie and I really have no idea when we “officially” started dating, but at the time of the wedding we estimated it had been about eight and a half years. At the time, I distinctly remember telling my friends that I could totally see myself marrying a guy just like him. But, really it never crossed my mind that I had just met my future husband! We quickly became really close friends, the kind of friendship you can’t really explain, but you somehow have a very unique connection from the very beginning. From that point on we were pretty much hooked. I moved to College Station, TX for my freshman year of college, so we were long distance for that year. The next year I ended up transferring to the University of Arkansas, where Charlie was a student. But, to this day I swear I didn’t transfer colleges just to be with him! We actually took a little break my sophomore year of college but soon ended up back together and have been together ever since. I moved to the Dallas area after I graduated in 2014 for graduate school, but Charlie stayed in Northwest Arkansas to continue working. We were long distance again for another 4 years before finally ending up back in the same town about a month before we got married!
Q: What was your style/color palette for the wedding?
A: “simple, natural, elegance.” My overall style is pretty neutral so I knew I wanted to take advantage of using natural tones that I felt were classic and stood the test of time. I wanted to be able to look back on my wedding day in 50 years and not say “what was I thinking picking that?”.
Q: What were the bridesmaids’ dresses like?
A The Bridesmaids’ dresses were one of the hardest things for me to pick. As you can tell, I love a good neutral, but finding just the right one proved to be move challenging than I expected. I ordered fabric swatch after fabric swatch and finally landed on the color “sienna” by Dessy. I wasn’t able to see the fabric as an actual dress before the girls ordered, so I was SO nervous but it turned out better than I could have imagined. I also let the girls pick their own style of dress. I wanted to make sure the girls all felt comfortable in their dresses and were happy with how they looked!
The bride’s favorite moment from the day: One that stands out above the rest is the moment where my dad and I reached the end of the aisle and I was standing at the alter with him, Charlie, and my grandfather. My grandfather is a retired pastor and officiated our wedding. He performed by parents wedding, my sister’s wedding, and so many other special family and friend’s ceremonies. Having him perform our ceremony was so special and it was the only detail that I never had a back-up plan for.
The flowers described by the bride: My flowers were actually one of the easiest decisions I made throughout the whole process. I knew I wanted ivory and white flowers with tones of natural greenery. Working with Cindy at Zuzu’s was amazing because she totally understood my vision and executed it in a way I couldn’t have even imagined possible!
Q: What was your cake(s) like?
A: Our wedding cake and grooms cake were seriously AMAZING! I loved the simplicity of my 5 layer cake design with stunning florals from Zuzu’s. Charlie’s cake was also adorable. He loves to play golf and Robyn was able to replicate his golf bag to top his golf course style cake. BUT, not only were our cakes beautiful, but they tasted amazing too!
Advice from the bride: Enjoy every minute of your wedding day and try not to get overwhelmed or stressed about the little details or decisions you have to make leading up to the day. When you get down to it, all that matters is you are marrying your best friend and the rest is really just a party to celebrate that! Try to focus less on making your wedding perfect and focus on the fact that after the wedding and the reception and even the honeymoon you are going to have a lifetime to spend with the person you love and who loves you back!
